A Gift In Honor of My Great Grandmother

I always had a close relationship with my Great Grandmother. I was fortunate enough to get to know all of Grandparents and although my Great Grandmother passed away several years ago now she is always close to my heart. She loved nature and lived in a second story apartment looking over a small stream. When I was younger she would walk me down by that stream and we'd look for fish in the water, watch squirrels and ducks. Those were great days.

Her daughter, my Grandmother, now has a small garden area outside of her apartment. She also enjoys the outdoors and has even named the squirrels that she feeds just outside her door. We often sit and talk on her front porch during the summer or at her kitchen table the rest of the year - and no matter where the conversation starts, we always end up talking about family. We look out the window and see the squirrels and birds and it always reminds me of the times I'd spent with my Great Grandmother.

My Grandma shows me pictures and tells me about family history. She tells me more about her mother than I ever knew. The stories are so much fun and I always look forward to them. I love my grandmother and I love my Great Grandmother - we do miss her dearly and in honor of her I purchased a hummingbird feeder and gave it to my Grandmother for her small garden. It's another part of the legacy of my Great Grandmother and a way her memory continues to bring joy.
